You may return to a topic after months away. Keep its sources and notes together so you can pick up where you stopped.

## Questions shape collections

Group the articles and notes around the question you were investigating. A collection called kitchen renovation tells you more than a folder called interesting.

Example in Zotero. Named collections keep a topic's references together when you return to it later. [Zotero](https://www.zotero.org/support/collections_and_tags#the_zotero_collections_model)

## The next useful connection

A topic you saved months ago can answer today's problem if your library can retrieve it with its source and date intact.

## Search for wording or related ideas

Full-text search can recover exact wording. Semantic search can surface related ideas, but each match still needs to be checked against its source and date.

Example in Zotero. Title and date conditions narrow a search when an old topic becomes useful again. [Zotero](https://www.zotero.org/support/searching#advanced_search)

## A practical decision

A light review rule for recurring interests

| Signal | Action | Evidence to keep |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The question is active | Move a few sources into review | Current decision or project |
| The topic is dormant | Leave it searchable | One plain-language summary |
| The material is obsolete | Archive or remove it | Reason and replacement source |

## Check the result

- [ ] Old material can be found by the question it answers.
- [ ] Dates and versions are visible.
- [ ] New sources are compared with existing notes.
- [ ] Dormant interests do not crowd the active queue.

## An important limit

Rediscovery is useful only when the source still fits the current question. Recheck claims, dates, and scope before acting on an old note.
